Whatsapp, an instant messaging platform, is now coming up with a new feature APIs (application programming interface) for business especially. Whatsapp is trying this feature to simplify the interaction of business service providers with their consumers. With the help of this feature, enterprises would be able to contact directly. It will be very helpful for start-up businesses. It has advantages over SMS service as Whatsapp will benefit them economically. Installation of the product is free and enterprises will be charged only for the message that is delivered. While in the SMS service, enterprises cost 10 paise for each message and at last the total cost for all transaction is very high. This new feature will reduce the cost of startups.
Whatsapp APIs features will debut with MakeMyTrip, Zendesk (customer service software provider) and a pharma delivery startup 1 mg (Gurugram-based start-up, uses Zendesk). Small business has already started this programme. Whatsapp has already started this feature with BookmyShow but it is the first time for its monetizing offerings.
This feature will be helpful to the service provider as well as to the consumer as they would be able to interact with the service providers directly and help them to resolve their queries. Large enterprises will also be able to send notifications to their customer, for ex. If there is any delay in flight timing, customers can be informed about it. Currently, Bookmyshow, Kotak Mahindra, and RedBus are using this feature.
It also has one feature to ensure that companies are prompt in response that companies will have to reply with 24 hours of delivered message, otherwise cost will be extra. Whatsapp in future also planning to monetize through advertisement where business platforms will be able to put advertisements for 24 hours to promote their business.
