A study done by scientists published in the journal PLOS ONE shows that plastics used in everyday objects also emit greenhouse gases when exposed to sunlight. Nowadays plastic pollution is seen as greatest environmental pollution and environmentalists are paying attention to reduce this pollution. Plastic pollution has increased very much that giant island of plastic was found in the Pacific ocean. It was discovered that plastic of everyday use also emits greenhouse gases like methane, ethylene and contributing to a great extent to global warming. Methane emission, coming out of burning fossil fuels, are major contributors to global warming.

This study is very important, as it provides one more cause of global warming. To fight against climate change we should pay attention to reduce plastic pollution. A research has found that more than 9 billion tons of plastic has been produced since 1950 and most of it has been discarded in open landfills, causing plastic pollution. Now we can see mounds of plastic everywhere causing threats to the environments. Many researchers have found that water bodies and landfills have garbage of plastics more than what was thought.

Exposure of plastic objects to sunlight emits methane, ethylene and other greenhouses cases which leads to an increase in global warming of the planet.
