The ongoing rift between BJP and Trinamool Congress on the present issue of National Registrar of citizens (NRC) has invited BJP chief Amit Shah to visit West Bengal on 11th August 2018. There was uncertainty over his visit on the said date. However, the Kolkata police confirmed that the permission for the visit has been granted. The Kolkata police in a tweet stated that “Some unwarranted speculation on social media about denial of permission to a political party on August 11 has come to our notice. It is to clarify that on request, permission for the meeting has already been granted.” But the sources said Mr. Shah was adamant about his visit irrespective of the permission.

The NRC issue is further aggravated by the sinister policy and exclusion framework of Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee but BJP wished to carry out NRC favored exercise in the state of West Bengal too. The secretary in charge of West Bengal, Mr. Kailash Vijaywargiya in his tweet said that “Youth of West Bengal want illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who are in the State to be identified. Because of illegal immigration, they are facing many difficulties like unemployment and challenges to law and order. The BJP supports this demand.” Dilip Ghosh, the president of the BJP’s West Bengal unit, promised that NRC will be applied in Bengal as well once they assume power. In return, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien said that “Happy journey to the land of peace and harmony #Bangla Love Your Neighbour”.
