Jalees Sherwani, the seasoned Indian screenwriter and lyricist, passed away on Tuesday on his way to a hospital in Mumbai. It has come as a huge shock to the Bollywood industry. He was 70.
Sherwani started off his career in Bollywood with the film “Kanwarlal” starring Jeetendra. He only went on to become more successful after that. Sherwani has to his credit writing dialogues for really big banners like Pratighat, Game, Ek Tha Raja and Mrityudata. He also wrote dialogues for numerous Salman Khan Movies including Tere Naam, Wanted, Tiger Zinda Hai and the Dabangg series.
Apart from his contributions in Bollywood, he has also held prestigious positions of responsibilities. He served as President of Film Writers’ Association twice, once from 2008-2012 and then from 2014-2016. Prior to that, he had also served as General Secretary of the Association. The writer’s cremation took place at his Oshiwara residence which saw presence of many people from the industry like Raza Murad, Faiz Anwar, Sajid-Wajid and Dilip Shukla. Condolences were given to the Sherwani family on various social media platforms too.
His family told that he died as a result of his prolonged illness and deteriorating health.
