ICC (International Cricket Committee) ranked Indian captain Virat Kohli at No. 1 Test batsman. He is first Indian to get the rank of No. 1 Test batsman since 2011 after Sachin Tendulkar and he is the 7th Indian batsman to get this rank in latest ICC rankings. Others are Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Dilip Vengsarkar.
Recently, he scored a brilliant century against England in the opening Test at Edgbaston. He scored 149 and 51 which increased his points by 31 and led to this top-ranked batsman. He replaced Steve Smith who is holding that position since December 2015. Now Virat Kohli is leading Smith by five points He reached to the top of his career for the first in his 67- test career. He has to maintain the form in the next four Test to finish the series as World’s highest-ranked Batsman.
He was the 76th player to top the Test batting ranking. Kohli is India’s highest-ranked batsman at 934 points. If he continues to perform well then he can reach to top 10 by leaving behind Matthew Hayden, Kallis and AB de Villiers with 935 points each.
