Muthuvel Karunanidhi was an Indian writer and politician. He served as the CM of Tamil Nadu for five terms and twenty years between 1969 and 2011. He was the president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party. Nation has lost a great leader on 7 August 2018. M Karunanidhi died at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai after prolonged, age-related illness. Present PM of India Narendra Modi has paid tribute to the great leader and he tweeted that "I paid tributes to an extraordinary leader and a veteran administrator whose life was devoted to the public welfare and social justice. Kalaignar Karunanidhi will live on in the hearts and minds of the millions of people whose lives were transformed by him." He was regularly visiting the hospital while recovering from a lung ailment. 

The body of the DMK president was taken to his home in Gopalapuram in Chennai and later, it was shifted to his other residence in CIT Colony. Today morning, it was taken to Rajaji Hall so that people can pay their last respects. The DMK patriarch will be buried near Anna Samadhi. Before entering politics, Karunanidhi worked in the Tamil Film Industry as a screenwriter and made contributions to Tamil Literature with various stories, plays, novels, and a multiple-volume memoir.
