Two lion cubs in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa look so adorable when they play with each other but what makes them so special is that they are the first ever cubs to be born with the technique of artificial insemination. The sibling pair of a male and a female is completely normal and healthy. The teams 18-month long trial paid off with such a lovely result. They collected sperms from a healthy lion and when the lioness was ready with the correct hormone level she was inseminated with the sperms. Though they made several attempts yet achieved success without much effort. This technique can prove to be really helpful to save the endangered big cats. Data reports say in about 46 African countries these cats have been extinct and just about 20k of them are remaining. If something is not done then they will become a sight of the past. Andre Mantz a renowned animal breeder of South Africa believes it to be a revolutionary step towards conservation of the lions. But the animal welfare organisations present their doubts as they believe that this industry is more profit driven. But nevertheless if implemented properly this is a significant step towards the fight to conserve our fauna.
