This Saturday morning, when the people were busy worshipping at a ‘Tree of Life’ synagogue at the Pittsburgh, USA. An Armed man with a rifle and three handguns, walked inside and began shooting indiscriminately. Thereby killing eleven people and wounding six before the police took him into custody, the officials reported. The armed man has been identified as Robert Gregory Bowers. Later he was charged with 29 federal counts, including weapons offences and hate crimes. There were Four police officers among the wounded. One of the survivors Barry Werber, aged 76 recalled the horror in an interview with The Associated Press as “I can’t say anything, and I’m barely breathing.”
According to State and federal affidavits made public on Sunday, the culprit Robert Gregory Bowers Has hatred of the Jews during the rampage and he later told the police that “all these Jews need to die”. It has been reported that Robert Bowers targeted a building that housed three separate congregations, all of which were conducting Sabbath services when the attack began just before 10 a.m. in the tree-lined residential neighbourhood of Squirrel Hill, about 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and the hub of the city’s Jewish community.
Though the sad incidences of the mass shooting are not something new in the USA, earlier also there have been several incidences of Mass killings but the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting is the deadliest attack on the Jews in the whole US history. This mass shooting has drawn condemnation and expressions of sympathy from politicians and religious leaders of all stripes. The US president Trump has called the shooting an "evil anti-Semitic attack". He further ordered flags at federal buildings throughout the US to be flown at half-staff in respect for the victims.
