Indian railway is high on pride when it inaugurates Train 18 in Chennai. What makes it so special is that it is engineless and can catch up the speed of 160km/hr, 15% more than the Shatabdi Express. With an expense of 100 crores the Integral Coach Factory completes the task under the Make In India scheme. Before handing over to the Research Design and Standards Organisation the train will be subject to some initial trial outside the factory. Also interesting to note the factory is able to manufacture the train at cost half of a similar train set planned to be imported. Talking about the seating plan, the train will have 2 executive coaches and 14 non-executive coaches in a chair car format with a capacity of 56 and 78 passengers respectively for the two categories. Moving further to the structure and other features of Train 18, it is built of stainless steel, has continuous windows and LHB as the base design. The interiors are loaded with cozy seatings, diffused lightings, Wifi, infotainment and GPS based passenger information system to make the journey smooth and technologically advanced. The train is planned to be tested on the speed of 180km/hr.
