Actor Shah Rukh Khan has been accused in a petition that has been filed in the Bombay High Court for hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh Community. The petition has been filed against the actor along with the director and producers of the film involving his wife Gauri Khan, Aanand L Rai, Google, Twitter, YouTube space Mumbai and the CEO and Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification.
Advocate Amritpal Singh Khalsa in his petition has stated that a scene from the trailer which involves the actor wearing only the undergarments and has tied a Kirpan along with a necklace of Rs 500 notes around his neck is an insult for the Sikh community as Kirpan holds a significant value in the Sikh religion. The petition further includes that a person who follows the Sikh Rehat and Maryada and who has tasted the holy nectar ( Amrit ) and has faith in the five articles, can only wear the Kirpan despite his caste/creed/religion.
The petitioner has prayed for conviction of the respondents under Section 295A of The Indian Penal Code, which makes a person liable of ‘deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs. The Petition further demands to revoke any certification already issued by the CBFC, to delete the scenes which shows the use of Kirpan, to remove the blasphemous scenes in the movie and to provide for an interim injunction against the publishing of any new poster or a trailer till the proceedings are pending before this court.
