Indian educational system has become only marks oriented and promotes mere mugging up of the chapters. It’s high time we break the obsolete tradition and inculcate some ability based learning. Parents opine at this point that the IGCSE board conforms to the Cambridge curriculum and thus discourages mere rote memory-based learning. Educationists say that this provides the students with the option of choosing the difficulty level in a subject. For example, it has a mathematics core and extended. So those who don’t want to pursue it in future or are weak in the subject can alter their difficulty level to their desire. The parents and the students feel that there is a need for proper consideration before the system is restructured. Just introducing practical education, they say the system needs to be more job oriented and students from varied skill types and aptitudes must be accommodated. Also, the gap between school and college syllabus also needs to be bridged. The board offers other courses such as tourism, photography etc. which gives the students wider career options. It is time to break the habit of getting sunk into heavy textbooks and come out of it to see a world with wider options for education and career.
