When Henry Tiphagne was announced as the winner of Civil Liberties Award, he became one of the top searches all over the world. With the name it looks like, the person belong to any other country, however he is a Christian of Madurai and part of the human rights organization People’s Watch. He got selected for this award in individual category. He has also won Rs.2.5 lakh and a citation. This award will be given to him on 15th December by SC Justice R.K.Nariman in Mumbai.
The panel which made the decision this as to the awardee comprised of retired Judges of Supreme Court of India including the likes of Sujata Manohar and S.N. Variava and Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha N. Murthy. Henry thanked every member of the panel and mentioned that the efforts for defending human rights are collective. He also said that these efforts of defending person’s human rights is collective and that it is the result of many activists and victims’ courage to come up and share their problems and hence they all are the part of this award.
Human rights it cannot be infringed by anyone in the world. It is the right, which is available to everyone at any place or any part of the world. There are laws in every country related to it, it is universal for everyone. There are many declarations also by United Nations related to it. There are many awards also which is given in that respect. The need behind this right is because it is same for everyone and cannot be change on the basis of the country’s territory. Now the object of the awards given to defenders also in the fact that the praise and also influence received associated with it also makes many people defend it.
