The women's wing of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB )demanded legal scrutiny of Triple Talaq bill and asked Rajya Sabha to send it to Select Committee. They alleged that the bill is anti-women.  The bill in question is 'Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on marriage) Bill, 2018' which may lead to more divorces. The AIMPLB alleged that rather than empowering women, the bill will is more into breaking marriages resulting into the shattered family and the meaningless institution of marriage.

The women’s chief organizer Asma Zohar said that the bill is constructed to empower women but its provisions vitiate the very purpose of the bill. She added that there is no benefit covered under the provisions of the bill. The Muslim women will be deserted and abandoned making it more miserable situation for her. She said that a victim doesn’t decide the granting of bail but it the magistrate in a criminal case, who decides the same. She alleged that the bill is also against criminal jurisprudence because it sends the husband in jail on the basis of mere allegations made by a Muslim woman.

She added that even Section 377 is decriminalized with a view to protecting the Fundamental Right of freedom in the personal and civil matter. But the same view has not been considered while penalizing men for divorce. She pointed out an irony that the women and men are free to have an affair before marriage and even during marriage, be it an extramarital affair or multiple relationships, but he is not free to divorce his wife. She alleged that Government has brought the bill for political and communal motives to divide the society on the basis of communities even when there was no need of such bill after Supreme Court’s pronouncement that saying ‘talaq’ three times in one sitting is not a standard procedure of divorce in Muslims.
