On December 13, 2018, 15 miners were trapped in the coal mine in the ksan area located in the Lumthari village of East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya due to water flow into the mineshaft from a nearby river called Lytein. Dec 30th is the eighteenth day in the rescue operation to rescue miners from a 320 feet deep mine. On Sunday afternoon, officials said, a team leader of the Indian Navy and an NDRF went inside the mine to calculate the water level inside the shaft. The Odisha fire service has lent 10 high power water pumps to push out water from the mine along with men. Around 200 rescuers are at a site on work. Mr. JS Gill a retired official of Coal India Ltd says the generators have not yet arrived but the pumps have come, after the generators come it will take 5 days to pump out all the water meanwhile navy divers have dived inside and have to see what is recovered by them, else will pump out the water.
