Coach Harendra Singh was appointed in May to be the coach of Indian Men’s hockey team is now the sixth coach that has been made to leave the team. He was sacked on Wednesday after the team’s disappointing performance in 2018 which included poor performance in hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar. He has been offered to return as a position of coach of the junior men’s team. Applications for inviting new coach will begin before the national campaign in February 2019 for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup scheduled to begin on March 23. Harendra Singh was in-charge when the Junior Hockey team won the world cup title in 2016, he was appointed as coach of Indian Hockey team after their no-medal performance in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games but no improvement has happened so far. India settled for a bronze medal in the Asian Games that took place in Indonesia, lost the quarter-final in Bhubaneswar. India has the long tradition of sacking coaches in a regular interval of time and they have been criticized for the same but they have not learned from their mistake rather repeated it once again. Mr. Harendra Singh will commence the camp for a junior hockey team in March 2019.
