The Naxalites conducted a surprise attack in Dantewada district in which Bhartiya Janata Party MLA Bheema Mandavi along with four police officers were killed by blowing their bullet resistant car with an improvised explosive device near shyamgiri village. The naxals accepted that they were involved in this attack. The Chhattisgarh government has requested the election commission to constitute a judicial inquiry into the killing of BJP MLA by the naxal attack. The MLA was advancing for his poll campaign in kuwakonda in Bacheli Town accompanied by two police vehicles when this event took place. The Chhattisgarh Government under the leadership of Bhupesh Baghel sought the assent of State Election Commission to conduct a judicial inquiry into this matter. The General Administration Department has written to state chief electoral officer regarding this.

As the model code of conduct is in effect for the Lok Sabha Elections, the chief secretary of the state has suggested to get the approval of the Central body of Election Commission for constituting the judicial panel. The Chief secretary of the Chhattisgarh state has proposed to get the permission from the Central Election Commission body to constitute a judicial inquiry panel.

Meanwhile, BJP president Amit Shah is demanding a CBI probe into this matter. Congress against this demand said that BJP is trying to politicise the sensitive killing of an MLA. Rather they should wait for the reply of Central body of Election Commission. The spokesperson of Congress said that CBI is not above the court of justice. The party in majority has assured that they will conduct a transparent and unprejudiced inquiry.
