'Athletics' is not just a word but an emotion for many, and Relays are not just about speed it is about coordination, the faith you have on your mates and self-confidence and control. According to the races we observed and the performance India has shown, India is lacking far behind in the relays. Though they gave their 100% that was not enough. The World Championship which is going to be held in Doha in September-October requires qualification, and for that, the rank should be within top 10 for men and women both for the 4*400 meters event (relay) and within top 12 for the mixed category.

The women's team was as follows 1)Hima Das (starter), 2)M R Poovamma, 3)Saritaben Gayakwad and 4)V R Vismaya. Though Hima was injured (lower back injury) but she gave a good start and finished her 400 mts in 52.60 seconds and was ranked second and handed over the baton to Poovamma who finished her 400 mts by being sixth on the list after that she passed the baton to Gayakwad who also managed to maintain the sixth position and passed the baton to Vismaya who with all her efforts managed to secure 4th position and the time was 3 minutes  and 31.93 seconds which was not good enough. This took their rank to 17th position overall, and couldn't make it to the championship.

The men's team have 1)Kunhu Muhammed, 2)Jithu Baby, 3)Jeevan Suresh and 4) Muhammed Anas. The team was only able to manage till heat number 2 where they were on 6th position. That was the last position and their timing was 3:06.05. And with this timing, they only made to 17th position and were ruled out of the championship. Talking of mixed relay the team was 1)Jithu Baby, 2)Sonia Baishya, 3)Prachi and 4)Antony Alex. This race was also not good though the start was reasonable they finished 5th in the heat with timing 3:23.59. And this time could only lead them to 15th overall position.
