Lucknow Development Body has decided to reduce the land limit to construct flats from 2000 square metres to 300 square metres. The decision will enable the authority to regularize the accommodations in the residential areas without following the building norms so as to cope with the increasing demand of the living spaces in the city. LDA had been asking for this change for last 2-3 years but the government gave its nod recently.

“Now, Lucknow Development Authority will allow construction of ground floor plus three floors on a minimum 300 sq mt plot and one storey can be added for every additional 100 sq mt area, upto maximum of 24 on a 2000 sq mt plot” said an official. For land spaces above 2,000 sq feet, builders can build multistoried buildings. He also said that a survey will be conducted and the projects under construction that can be accommodated under the new policy will be regularized after paying the penalties.

Official in charge said that the policy will be implemented only after approval from the board and LDA will have to identify the areas where it can be implemented. People who have already started the construction of flats amidst a row of single housing units without seeking the permission of LDA will have to make alterations according to the new policy. The constructions which violate the new norms will be demolished.

Under the new policy, while giving people approval to construct apartments in small areas, LDA will charge extra for later upgrading existing infrastructure to accommodate increase in population.
