According to leading film critic, Rajeev Masand, The Student of the Year franchise is to filmgoers what iOS updates are to Apple users – the latest one doesn’t seem like a big improvement on the last, and nobody asked for a new one yet they keep putting out more. The prequel to the movie was based on 3 young college goers with a predictable love triangle and friendships that couldn’t stand the test of the competition – student of the year.
However, Student of the Year 2 is both predictable and boring. It is more like a fashion show than a movie with people wearing the perfect clothes, makeup and hair. Even after playing strenuous games like kabbadi or dancing for hours together, their makeup and hair remain undisturbed. The newcomers do not look very promising as their acting skills seem to be average. Ananya Pandey has proven to be better than the others with her spunk and way of acting. If the film has anything worthwhile, it is Tiger Shroff’s jumping and leaping and dancing. He has aced all the choreographies and fight sequences. The camera focuses on him a lot and every aspect of his well-maintained abs.
The songs in the movie are very catchy and have won the hearts of the audience through its extravagant settings and background dancers. The song with Alia Bhatt has made its way into many top 10 charts.
