Popular online messaging app – WhatsApp owned by Facebook, has asked its users to update the app as there is a possibility of a spyware attack that gains remote access by placing a call on WhatsApp. It can be used to control the mobile and can extract information like call logs, text messages, etc. In the next two days, we will see new updates to fix this loophole. It could have a mass-level impact in the next three to four months if people continue to use the older versions.
The attackers are said to be from a firm based in Israel as per global reports. According to experts, these attacks are called “zero-day” attacks that have touched 100% and there is no firewall or antivirus to stop them.
How to update WhatsApp:
India is the largest market for the app with over 2 million users, WhatsApp India spokesperson said - updating the app and mobile OS will protect against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile devices.
