HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lalremsiami and Navneet Kaur scored the two goals for India
  • The Indian hockey team beat South Korea 2-1
  • India will play the second match on Wednesday

The hosts were easily defeated in a thrilling contest by the confident and surging Indian team. India is going one on one against the hosts South Korea in a three-match bilateral series. The first goal came from the Indian side in the 20th minute of the match by the young striker Lalremsiami and the second goal came from Navneet Kaur in the 48th minute of the match.

Shin Hyejeong scored the only goal from the South Korean side as they were beaten all hands up by the confident Indian Team. India already had successful outings in Spain and Malaysia earlier this year and with this win, it has gained enough momentum going as the favorites for the remaining two matches of the bilateral series. Talking about the match, India had lost an early opportunity of scoring from the penalty corner in the first quarter of the game. But thereafter the beautiful and sweet strikes from Lalremsiami and Kaur were more than enough for the visitors to take them home. All the experience came in Handy for India’s goalkeeper, Savita, as she saved plenty of close calls. Sjoerd Marijne, India’s head coach is happy about the team’s performance and expressed the importance of building on technical skills in order to play as fast as they can and hopefully further upgrade their performance.
