It has been 32 long years of the anti-Sikh-riots but the perpetrators haven’t been brought to Justice instead the victims were compensated. The Union Home Ministry enabled the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to reopen investigations in all the cases, wherein trial had been completed, and the accused were discharged. In February 2015, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs constituted a three-member special investigation team (SIT) to reinvestigate criminal cases filed in Delhi in relation to the 1984 Sikh massacre. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots, also known as the 1984 Sikh Massacre, was a series of organized pogroms against Sikhs in India in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
“We sought legal opinion and concluded that such cases pertaining to the 1984 Sikh riots, in which the accused were discharged or acquitted, could also be investigated again. The SIT is compiling the list.” said the senior official.
