The United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) on July 8 has made a statement on India and Pakistan that they have failed to improve the situation in the Kashmir region, and have not taken the necessary steps, which should be taken for addressing the various concerns raised in its previous reports. The first report on Kashmir has been released by the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights through which they were urging actions by both India and Pakistan to reduce the tension regarding Kashmir issue.
A report by United Nations Human Rights about Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir from May 2018 to April 2019, which stated that the number of civilian causalities in these 12 months maybe the highest in over a decade. The report said that the accountability in Kashmir for the violation being committed by the members of the Indian Security Forces remained virtually non-existent.
India has responded that it extended the legitimacy to cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar said that it was a matter of deep concern that this update seems to accord legitimacy to terrorism which conflicts the UN Security Council position.
