In two mass shootings reported in less than 24 hours in Ohio and Texas, 31 people were killed and about 50 injured. However, it took only 30 seconds to stop the shooter Ohio and zero bullets in Texas for officers to stop the mass shooter.
The Ohio shooter was gunned down by the officers at the doorstep of a bar-turned-hiding place in the middle of Dayton’s nightclub district, and the El Paso shooter was arrested as hundreds fled a crowded shopping centre. The Nation that has become accustomed to gun violence was in shock but the bigger tremor was that the death toll wasn’t even worse.
A gunman opened fire in the Texas border city of El Paso on Saturday morning in an area that had various shops that were packed with thousands of people during the busy back-to-school season. With 22 people dead, more than two dozen were injured and many of these people were critical.
In Dayton, Ohio only hours later, a gunman killed nine people and at least 26 people were wounded. The gunman was seen wearing body armor and carrying extra magazines when he opened fire in a popular nightlife area.
In less than a week after a 19-year-old gunman killed three people and wounded 13 people at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California these attacks took place. The 19 year old died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The El Paso shooting was being investigated as a possible hate crime as authorities worked to confirm whether a racist, anti-immigrant screed posted online shortly beforehand was written by the man arrested. The border city is home to 680,000 people, many of them Latino.
