On August 16 Iltija Javed, the daughter of the former Chief Minister of Kashmir and the leader of People Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti, wrote a letter to the Home Minister Amit Shah, questioning the reason for her detention.

Recently on August 5 the Indian Government altered the articles that give special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and thereby revoking it. Even before that Jammu and Kashmir has been under governor’s rule. Many political party leaders has been held under house arrest, for their voice against revoking the special status. And one among them is PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and her family. Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter has wrote a open letter to the home minister and given it to the press. She questions that “ inspite of her being a law abiding citizen why the government has detained her?”. She also alleged that they, the government, treat her like a war criminal


“For the world’s largest democracy, doesn’t a citizen have a right to speak up in the face of unimaginable repression? I’ve been threatened with dire consequences if I speak up (to the media) again,” – Ms.Javed said in her letter which she has sent to the Home Minister.
