The Madras High court on Monday heard a petition initiated by itself regarding caste based discrimination of burial grounds. The bench consisting of Justice S. Mani Kumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad heard this petition. In Vellore a group of Dalit’s were forced to drop a dead body on the river bed from a bridge as the way to their Dalit burial ground was blocked due to an encroachment made by certain people. When enquired this activity of dropping the body from a bridge on the river bed was being followed by the Dalit’s in the district of Vellore since the past four years.

The bench first discussed on the caste based discrimination of burial grounds and then on the fact that this shows that the government itself encourages such caste discrimination. Thus, the bench ordered that such kind of discrimination should be completely eradicated and they also, laid emphasis on the Aadhi Dravidians schools which is a school reserved for Schedule Tribes, and discrimination of such kind also should be brought to a stop the bench felt.

When state government have removed all sorts of caste based discrimination, separate burial grounds or separate schools based on caste guide the society in a different backward direction. Also, the bench directed the Vaniyambadi Thasildar and District Collector of Vellore to look upon this issue and take measures to settle this issue as soon as possible.
