Mexican immigration authorities say they deported a group of 311 illegal migrants from India, the first such action taken by the country since it enhanced efforts to crack down on people using its territory to sneak into the US. "The migrants had been detained by the officials in various Mexican states before being concentrated at a detention centre in the Gulf state of Veracruz in preparation for their deportation"-said a Mexican official
The Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) or National Institute of Migration of Mexico said -"310 men and one woman of different ages – left for New Delhi on a chartered flight from Toluca international airport on Wednesday night."
Indian and Mexican officials said. “We are aware that a chartered flight with 311 Indian deportees has taken off from Mexico. The external affairs ministry is coordinating closely with other agencies and the Mexican embassy in New Delhi for their safe return. The deportees are being accompanied by federal migration agents and officials of the National Guard of Mexico.
The Indian nationals were detained by immigration authorities in the Baja California, Tabasco, Mexican states of Oaxaca, Sonora, Mexico City and Durango Chiapas. They were taken to the Acayucan migration station in Veracruz to verify their identities before being put on the chartered flight. The vast majority of migrants transiting Mexico toward the US border are from Central America, but among the mix are people from all over the world especially from South-Asian countries.
The deportation was done in “excellent communication and coordination” with Indian and Mexican authorities and under the provisions of the migration law and regulations. The 311 Indian nationals, including men and a woman, had been detained in various Mexican states before being concentrated in the state of Veracruz in preparation for their deportation. They were flown from Toluca to New Delhi in a Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
