The National Investigation Agency (NIA) summoned under Section 160 CrPC read with Section 43F of UAPA, Mr. Upendra Kaul who is a senior cardiologist and he is the chairman of Batra Hospital in south Delhi. He was called as a witness for the 2017 terror funding case. He was asked to appear at 10.30am after which he was questioned for half an hour and was asked about the SMS exchange he did with Yasin Malik who is now lodged in the Tihar Jail. For which Mr. Kaul stated that Malik was not like his childhood friend but a mere patient of him, whereby he was only brought by the Government of India for treatment for his heart ailment and like he did his follow-up. Further he stated that he was asked about a message which said INR 2.78, according to him it was just a medical term and nothing else.
The summons came subsequently after his speech on NDTV on amending Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu & Kashmir. He was also asked about Malik’s ideology for which he answered that there has been no reason to enquire about a patient’s personal beliefs and ideology. Malik was arrested after a week of pulwama attack and has been put in Tihar Jail since. The case was registered for raising and collecting funds through various illegal means for funding terrorist’s activities in Jammu & Kashmir. Further the National Investigation Agency has filed a charge sheet.
