Deepika Padukone made a visit to JNU campus to lend support to the protesting students. She was not there to promote her upcoming movie but was there to express the anguish on behalf of everyone.
Before the release of Padmaavat she faced huge backlash in the country for that movie, a BJP leader even announced a 10 crore bounty on her head for starring in Padmaavat, while Karni Sena wanted to chop off her nose! and still despite knowing that what is at stake here she still went ahead and did a responsible citizen's job. She is also the producer of her film 'Chhapaak'.
She attended a public meeting called by JNU Teacher's Association and JNUSU in response to Sunday's attack on students and teachers by masked mob armed with sticks and rods. Deepika stood as former president Kanhaiya Kumar was raising azaadi slogans and left by the time current president Aishe Ghosh started speaking, without making any grand statements.
As soon as the news of the actor visiting the campus broke out twitterati was quick to take sides, with trending hashtags such as #boycottchhapaak, #isupportdeepika. While one section praised her for her stand other criticized her for the same.
