The Nirbhaya case Convict has been issued death warrant by the Delhi Court and the date for the hanging has been set as February 1, 2020 at 06:00AM. In an additional Session, Judge Satish Kumar Arora heard a plea from convict Mukesh Singh, who asked for the date be extended to 22 January.
Earlier in the day, Delhi’s Tihar Jail had been given the authority for issuing the fresh death warrant against the convict.
The Court had a mercy plea filed by Mukesh Singh but, after his request reached the higher authorities, it was clearly rejected by the President Ram Nath Kovind, says a public prosecutor Irfan Ahmed.
One amongst the six rapists, Ram Singh allegedly committed suicide in the jail during the trial and a few weeks later another, a juvenile, around 18-years-old at the time of incident was released from a reformation house after serving for a period of three years.
In December 2012, Mukesh Singh along with five others gang raped a young girl, 23-years-old student – known as Nirbhaya or “Fearless”, in a moving bus was tortured and killed. It was so sensitive, heart breaking, and brutal that citizens were left shaking and angry, they fell out into different groups at different places demanding “Justice for Nirbhaya”. There were a lot of candle marches all around the country, people with tears, anger, and shame. During the incidence, the victim faced fury physical attack and died of her injuries.
Delhi high court has declared that the convicts, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Kumar Singh and Pawan Gupta will be hanged at Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February1 at 06:00AM.
