On Thursday during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) outside Jamia Milia Islamia in New Delhi, a man wielded gun and open fired, the bullet had hit one of the students. The student was immediately rushed to Holy Family Hospital in the locality.

The brandishing the gun was heard saying “Yeh lo azaadi…. Hindustan Zindabad…. Delhi Police Zindabad….” Some of the police personnel mentioned that the man with the gun was identified as Gopal and has been detained from the University.

This incident of firing took place few days after monday when the Union Minister Anurag Thakur encouraged the listeners present in the crowd of the BJP rally to chant ‘Goli Maro Saalon ko’ repeatedly and said the crowd to chant along ‘desh ke gaddaron ko – goli maro saalon ko’. It is roughly translated as “What should be done with the traitors of the Country? Shoot them”.

Immediately after his speech another ban on the Union Minister Anurag Thakur was Imposed by the Election Commissioner for the time period of 72 hours.

On 15thDecember, protests in Jamia against the amended Citizenship Act broke out in which four buses, 100 private vehicles and 10 Police bikes were damaged. Allegedly, the Police entered the Jamia Milia Islamia University’s campus and attacked the students.

Some of the reports reveal that the students of Jamia were to hold a march at Rajghat on the 72nd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The conclusion to which is that the student Gopal who open fired has been detained from the university
