The last time I remember, when I was in the mood to watch a new movie, I had to find a theatre which would be closer to my house, would not be crazy expensive, and the time of screening was good. Often some sort of compromise had to be made, either the screen timing was not good, or the price of the ticket was way too expensive or the condition of the theatre would not justify the fact that we are living in the 21st Century. Now, I do not mind if the theatre is selling something to eat or not, as for me, the movie was more important than, how was the popcorn taste. Often, I would wait for the intermission to end just to get to know how the story is going to turn.
Now all of this has been completely changed, with the new subscription-based content watching which is provided by companies like NETFLIX, HOTSTAR and HULU, the entire hassle of getting in line to buy tickets, running to the theatre so that you do not miss the beginning and also to make sure that you do not waste time during the intermission so that you do not have to find your way to your seat in the dark, after all, we are habituated with the environment.
Earlier, we would have to wait for the latest movies to pave there way to content providers like NETFLIX so that we can easily watch them. Not to mention, the trouble we had to go through.
With the recent developments, some producers have decided to directly upload the movies to content providers, rather than the old traditional way, so that people can easily watch the movie without worrying about it. Such an arrangement has come after all the theatres were forced to close due to the lockdown. But the main question is, can we finally see the change in the dynamics of watching movies? And what is the future of theatres?
I have to admit one fact if, in future producers decide to upload the movies online rather than show them in theatres, I would miss the thrill of running to the theatre to make sure I arrive on time. I guess theatres are going to have a nostalgic feeling if we do decide to come back to them after a long time.
