  • 297 out of the 1000 buses in the list provided by Congress party lacked proper papers
  • FIR lodged against UP-Congress Chief Ajay Kumar Lulla and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s secretary Sandeep Singh

After receiving no permission from the UP government, hundreds of buses stationed at the UP-Rajasthan border, and the Delhi-UP border returned on Wednesday evening. The standoff between the Congress party and the UP government has been going on for three days. In a video message, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the General Secretary of Congress, said that the party was taking back the 100 buses arranged by the party if the UP government does not want to use them to ferry stranded migrant workers. The buses remained at the UP border for 24 hours before being withdrawn at 4 pm on Wednesday.

First, the UP government asked the buses to be handed over at Lucknow, the capital of UP. When the Congress objected, the UP government asked for 500 buses each to be sent to Noida and Ghaziabad. After that, the UP government raised objections to the list of the buses. When the UP government asked, a list of 1000 buses were submitted by the Congress party containing details of the buses. However, a spokesperson of the UP government claimed that 297 out of the 1000 buses in the list lacked proper papers like vehicle insurance or a fitness certificate. The spokesperson said that 100 out of the total vehicles were not even buses. They were reportedly smaller vehicles such as cars, auto-rickshaws, and ambulances when cross-checked with the online vehicle RC database of the Road Transport Ministry.

Dinesh Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister of UP, said the Congress’ offer to send buses for the migrant workers was a political stunt. Since the buses lacked either insurance papers or fitness certificate, he said that the UP government could not run unfit buses and put the lives of migrant laborers at risk. He also claimed that how a political party can use the buses which belonged to the roadways corporation of Rajasthan.

The UP-Congress Chief Ajay Kumar Lulla was arrested in Agra at UP-Rajasthan border when he forced to cross the border with 500 buses without any approval. He even staged a protest on the road. As a result, the Agra district administration took him into custody. An FIR has been lodged against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s secretary Sandeep Singh and UPCC chief at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. They have been booked for allegedly forging the list of 1000 buses that they had provided to the state government. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the UP government of playing politics by not permitting the buses stationed at UP-Rajasthan border and UP-Delhi border.
