HIGHLIGHTS

  • There had been ongoing tension between India and China for a long time now
  • Tik Tok, Camscanner, Helo, Shareit, UC Browser, Wechat most noted ones there
  • Pubg though a chinese app, not in the list

The IT ministry has banned 59 Chinese-owned applications, including TikTok, ShareIt, UC Browser, Likee, WeChat, and Bigo Live.

The reason behind this that ministry says is that they stated they were “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.“There have been raging concerns on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians. It has been noted recently that such concerns also pose a threat to the sovereignty and security of our country. The Ministry of Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers that have locations outside India. The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defense of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures.”

Luckily, for the PUBG loving folks out there, there no ban on it, at least as of yet, and I hope not as in this quarantine period, I am sure many out there must have relied upon it for a numerous time to pass by here.
