Changes in Starbucks rewards

Starbucks Corporation, an American multinational chain of coffeehouses and roastery reserves headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks is seen to be the main representation of the United States' second wave of coffee culture.

The company’s policy was to load money in a Starbucks card for the purchase of food and drinks through the application and later the customers could collect rewards. Although the app allows customers to reload funds when their balance is low as of now, it’s now possible to pay for the transaction directly from a credit card, debit card, or cash.

Recently, the world's largest coffeehouse chain Starbucks has bought up a new system that permits the customers to pay their bills through credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and cash. This system will continue to provide stars for rewards. The reload will no longer be a panic.

Now, the customers in the US and Canada will have various options to complete their payment. They'll also be able to order from the app and choose to pay by handing a physical credit card or cash. But now the customers will receive only half the number of stars by using these new "alternative" payment methods, which will be a loss for them.

Using a Starbucks card, the customer generally gets two stars per dollar for purchasing items on the application. So, paying directly with cash, a credit card or other payment methods will give the customers just one star per dollar.

Allegedly, the new options are in response to customer feedback, and the company hopes to widen its customer base by expanding payment choices.

Starbucks chief marketing officer said, "Our customers have shared with us that they would like more options to pay and earn Stars in the app as a Starbucks Rewards member, in addition to the Starbucks Card".

The Starbucks app is among the most successful rewards apps. It drives loyalty by giving customers deals and free food for purchases. Starbucks collects purchase data and determines which beverages are popular where -- and when. The company can use this information to drive sales in off hours as well by introducing Happy-hours in some afternoon, the company gains back its customers. During this pandemic, some Starbucks stores have gone mobile-only, restricting purchases to customers who purchased their orders in advance on the app.
