New National Education Policy 2020, schools And higher education saw major changes
New Education Policy was approved on Wednesday, by the Union Cabinet, the cabinet has also renamed the Ministry of Human Resource and Development as Ministry of Education.
The cabinet meeting is chaired by prime minister Narendra Modi.

Major highlights of NEP 2020:

Current 10+2 structure in which policy covers schooling from class 1 to 10 and then class 11 to 12 gives away to five years of foundation education which will focus on multilevel play activity-based learning, three years of the preparatory stage which will focus on play, Discovery, activity-based and interactive classroom learning, three years of middle stage experiential learning in science, mathematics, arts, commerce, social science and humanities; and four years of secondary schooling which will focus on multi-disciplinary study, greater critical thinking, flexibility, and student choice of subjects.
Students have liberty and flexibility to choose across the streams all subject to be offered at two levels of proficiency.
Board exams could become modular and may be held twice a year.
Three language policy is to be continued with a preference for the local language of instruction till class 8th.
Schools now will witness a bagless day school will now have ten bagless days a year. During this time the students will be exposed to an informal internship.
The national testing agency will conduct common College entrance exam twice a year
On the system, there will be flexibility in choosing the subjects given to the children as well as in the entry and exit in College degree programs.

Any student can exist or enter a degree program from One year onwards if he/she wants only a certificate if 2 years have completed a diploma will be awarded and post the completion of 3 or 4-year curriculum the degree will be awarded.
There is also a proposal to cap fees charged by the private institutions of higher learning.
International and global universities are to be facilitated to come in India and top Indian institutions will be encouraged to go global.
Since most of the learning happens in the mother tongue we ensure that whenever possible the medium of instruction until class 5 but preferably till class 8 on will be in-home language mother tongue regional language starting from the foundational state children will be exposed to different languages with the particular emphasis on the mother tongue, said Pokhriyal.
