  • BCCI had an 11-point meeting on 13th July.
  • UAE is selected as the venue.
  • Brad Hogg's commets on Hardik Pandya

So it’s confirmed, IPL 2020 will take place in the UAE. After a lot of speculation over the venue for this year’s tournament, UAE has been finalized as the one. IPL Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel, on Sunday, confirmed that the BCCI has sent the acceptance letter to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for this year’s tournament.

Previously the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) was to hold a virtual meeting on 17th July 2020. The blueprint to conduct the Indian Premier League (IPL) amidst rising cases of COVID-19 will be topmost on the agenda of BCCI's Apex Council. The meeting was an 11-point agenda meeting where United Arab Emirates was decided to be the venue for IPL 2020.

Previously, the BCCI had stated that while hosting the IPL in the country remained the top priority, it would not hesitate in moving the tournament outside India. And with the present situation in the country being alarming, the BCCI has decided to shift to the UAE. “Yes, we have sent the acceptance letter to the ECB and both the boards will be working together from now on to stage the tournament,” Khaleej Times quoted Patel as saying.

According to the newspaper, ECB had sent the proposal to the  BCCI  in April to host the IPL. Patel further said that the eight IPL franchises – Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore — will hold their respective pre-tournament training camps in the UAE. He said that the training camps will be held in the UAE in a bio-secure environment and “the teams need at least three to four weeks to prepare for the tournament”. Last week, Patel had also confirmed that the IPL will start September 19 and the final will be on November 8th.

Former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg was recently asked which teams he believes could be contenders for IPL this year. In his response, Hogg named Mumbai Indians and Royal Challenger. But interestingly, Hogg also said that he could see India all-rounder Hardik Pandya becoming the ‘man of the tournament’ this year. “Well, Mumbai Indians look like they are going to be champions again. They are one of my top two teams going into this year’s IPL in UAE this year,” Hogg said on his Youtube page Hogg’s Vlog. “The reason for this is that they have got a good top four, they also have good allrounders and their bowling attack is stable led by two geniuses with the new ball, and in death overs - Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga,” he added.

The former Aussie spinner further explained the factors that could improve Hardik Pandya’s performance this year. “Also, the allrounder Hardik Pandya. He is looking to get back into cricket after a long time off due to injury. He’s also got a baby on the way as well. I just think those things will give him extra energy and he will become a man of the tournament in the UAE,” he said.
