Karnataka to deploy Final Year MBBS students for COVID-19 duty.


Amid rapid rising novel coronavirus cases. the number of coronae affected cases has touched 1.44 million out of which 918k been recovered and discharged. The number of death has increased to 32771. With these statistics, India has crossed the tally of 1 lakh increased in just two days.


On Friday State Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar said The rising corona cases and shortage of doctors in the tech city. The Karnataka government has decided to deploy final year Medical and Science students on COVID duty for increasing the testing facilities and treating the infected.


He said " As we are facing a shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedics, a final year MMBS students, lab technician course and science will be trained and assigned to COVID duties, including tracing, testing the infected.


In Bengaluru, the state health department has set a target of testing 30000 samples a day. That accounts for 50 to 60 percent of the positive cases. They could not accomplish this due to the shortage of staff despite using service of 80 private labs and fever clinics across the city. Under the Disaster Management Act, the government has asked the students to volunteer for the service. As we need more trained personal for even mobile clinics to contain the virus spread. On Friday 5007 new cases were reported from across the southern state, Bengaluru accounted for 2267 cases taking its total tally to 41, 467 cases.


The minister said more data entry operators are hired from the state-run Keonics to feed the dashboard Zones wise in the state war room in real-time and process the coronavirus information that is collected form the day to day survey by health care warriors.


The BBMP has decided to deploy 150 MBBS students for data entry operations at primary health centers. This decision was taken to maintain the authenticity of the information and also to ensure that the database was managed with a real-time flow of information.


The city has already 12000 containment zones. The minister urged the public representatives to create awareness about the infected persons, treating them, and quarantining and taking care of them.


This major decision that has been taken from the Karnataka government is to reduce the burden on hospitals and the healthcare personnel who are already overwhelmed, the priority is to trace ILI and SARI cases for testing and treating them.
