BCCI, The detailed plan for IPL 2020 in UAE


The Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) shared a detailed plan for Indian Premier League IPL 2020 in UAE.


On Saturday via teleconference, the Indian Premier League governing council is all set to the meeting with their primary stakeholders – franchise owners, broad holders, and central sponsors on Sunday and Monday. The meeting will chat out the final plan for the tournament to be played in UAE starting September 19th.


Governing council said by confirming the dates for the meeting that " in all these years of IPL, the responsibility of accommodation, hospitality, travel, etc during the IPL has been of the team owners, nothing is going to change this year. The only change will be in the SOPs concerning the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday the BCCI chose to share their plans for UAE.


There will be no change in the distribution of BCCI's central revenue pool Since all 60 matches of IPL are being played in 51 days. Franchises wouldn't be looking at any income if the IPL wouldn't have happened.


It said that strict protocols being put in the place. Each franchise will create its bubble in which the team will only be interacting with a limited number of people in their ecosystem or allotted to them by BCCI. Similarly, a bubble will be created for BCCI and IMG staff, broadcasters, etc . except with pre-appointed coordinators, nobody will be interacting with individuals outside their bubble.


Travel and accommodation: Franchises will have to figure their travel arrangements and accommodation in UAE. BCCI will coordinate with UAE authorities to ensure " discounted hotel rates" and share it with the Franchise. It's the discretion of the Franchises to settle for the BCCI's options provided by BBCI or make their arrangements. Franchises will fly their players to UAE and back as is the case during IPL in India every year.


The BCCI will arrange a central medical team still Franchises will arrange for their medical teams. Once players and support staff land in UAE, the onus of testing will be on the franchise. Who will turn coordinate with BCCI's medical team on a 24*7 basis?


They said there will be no change in the player's policy and the franchises will be free to travel with extra players to avoid last-minute travels. On Saturday's meeting, The board and the governing council are working on through details to prepare a draft on these policies that will be discussed. And then will be shared with the Franchises.
