Elon Musk is admired as one of the greatest visionaries of our time. Musk has grand ideas that can drastically change mankind. The innovative companies like SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, PayPal, and SolarCity, were founded or were among his heavily involved works. “He keeps a hand in the day-to-day operations of every company he leads”, people who worked close to him say.

Two Elon Musk-led companies ranked in the top 10 in Vault’s Most Prestigious Internships Rankings, this year. While Tesla that was ranked number 7 was better known of the two, SpaceX which ranked number 10 was more valuable.

When he was asked in an interview in 2014 with AutoBild.tv about what skill he is looking for when he is hiring someone, he answered that he is looking for people with evidence of exceptional ability. If they have faced many difficult situations and have overcome it. If they have any significant accomplishments in their life. He believed that if people have faced a very difficult time, they will understand it and will never forget it. He also seeks to find out people with strong problem-solving abilities. He also added to this that it is impressive when people talk about their major achievements in job interviews. And it turns out much more interesting when they tell you the hurdle they were facing and the ideas they came up with to overcome it.

When asked about the importance of a college degree in the very same interview he quoted that “there is no need to even have a college degree. If you look at people like Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, or Steve Jobs, these guys didn’t graduate from college.” He also reiterated the phrase “exceptional ability” which is what he is looking for in a person he is hiring.

Riddle-like brain teasers were popular in job interviews. Even though this type of question has fallen out of favor, Elon Musk is one such person notable for his brain-teaser question during interviews. One such question was:

You’re standing on the surface of the Earth. You walk one mile south, one mile west, and one mile north. You end up exactly where you started. Where are you?

The most common answer to this was the North Pole according to Popular Mechanics. The South Pole was also a solution. These types of questions are not meant for testing the intelligence of the person but to see his problem-solving abilities by observing how they arrived at a solution.
