In India rape is the fourth most common crime committed against women. Daily a lot of women are getting raped and they are not noticed or bought forward. Rape cases are more among lower caste women. They are abused physically and mentally. A 19-year-old was attacked and raped while she was cutting grass in Hathras, Uttarpradesh. She was hospitalized for two weeks and reported dead yesterday. Protests have aroused all over India after she was allegedly raped and tortured. She was cutting grass on 14th September in Hathras, a state in Uttar Pradesh. The rapists pulled her into the field with her dupatta, sexually assaulted her, and strangled her.
She was found by her family in a naked state, bleeding and paralyzed, her tongue split into two and her spine broken. She was taken into hospital in the city of Aligarh and she was transferred to a hospital in Delhi for a better facility, where she died from her injuries on Tuesday morning. Four men have been suspected and arrested by police in connection to her death. She was from the Dalit community a lower Indian caste. The suspects who were caught by the police living next door to her family were from a higher caste. There were more than 300 protesters from the Bhim army, a party who works for the rights of Dalits gathered and protested outside the hospital demanding justice for her. Still, in this 21st century, India has a division among lower and upper castes. People must be educated and should be taught to respect women. Men should be taught to protect women. The women's family had reported that the police initially did not charge a case because of their lower social status. They did not take it seriously until it gained attraction in the media. The response of the police in Hathras was very slow.
Sexual violence as a tool of oppression has been increasing day by day particularly in states like Uttar Pradesh. Since September three other cases have been reported from the state where young Dalit women and girls being raped by upper-caste men. The youngest victim was only three years old. In India, each day 4 Dalit women are getting raped This rape also proves the close relationship between sexual violence and India's discriminatory caste system. India is the most dangerous country in the world for women. Indian government should take effective steps to reduce this sexual and gender-based violence inflicted on women and girls !!.
