The Giro d'Italia was at the edge of cancellation on Tuesday after five teams were hit by Covid-19 cases on the first day and two of them pulled out on the three-week grand tour which is just 12 days before the finish in Milan. The Scott team withdrew after four staff members tested positive for coronavirus followed by top rider Simon Yates. Steven Kruisjwik the leader of Jumbo-Visma tested positive, said that they won't start the 10th stage on Tuesday. According to RCS organizers, A team Sunweb rider, a staff member from Ineos - Grenadiers also tested positive for coronavirus. RCS reported in a statement that doctors had ordered for isolation measures. Michael Mathews had tested positive and according to Luke Roberts Australians were asymptomatic. Roberts told the reporters that it is very disappointing to lose one of the riders. He said we are in a with a fight with General classification and Michael would have been a help. He also said that we will continue to chase their goals and will make it into Milan. Jumbo Visma said that they withdrew from the game for everyone's safety. It was indeed a responsible decision said Sports director Addy Engels. Mitchelton Scott announced that the team was notified of four positive results for staff members in a test conducted on Sunday.

On Monday, news came out that several positive covid-19 results to members after the third round of tests in three days. As a social responsibility, the race organization made a clear decision to withdraw from the Giro'd Italia.

Kruijswijk one of the pre-race favorites withdrew on Saturday after he tested positive for coronavirus. Four staff members also tested positive for the virus while on the French tour. At the French tour, two positive tests in a single team lead to the ejection of the outfit from the race but, no such rule was put in place for the Italian tour, which began on October 3 in Sicily. People gathered in the same hotel and we're eating the same buffet which was a terrible mistake. Italy who hosted the rescheduled championships last month had seen a huge rise in the coronavirus cases. Elite racing resumed in August after four and a half months. However, the huge rise in Coronavirus in Europe has forced the local authorities to cancel races such as Netherlands Amstel Gold Race, which has been scheduled for, Saturday. Such a terrible situation in the field of sports.
