Tarun Lak, an animator at Pixar Animation Studios has some of the most prominent films to his name, including Soul, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Onward, and Disney and Pixar's upcoming feature film Luca. Over the last year, Tarun has been sharing short animated videos about an authentic Indian childhood making his Indian audience immensely nostalgic. These videos revolve around the relatable little things that almost every Indian kid must have experienced like drinking sweet coconut water in the summers, grandfather's quick glimpse of the newspaper before his afternoon nap, and lunch breaks with aluminum tiffin boxes back in school. The talented 26-year-old was born in the United States and moved back to Chennai, his family’s native place, at the age of five. He spent most of his childhood days around Teynampet and RA Puram. Tarun had started doodling from a very young age and continued doodling even during his school hours. The 26-year-old has always been fond of classic Disney and Pixar movies since he was a little kid and watched shows like the Looney Tunes and Dexter's Laboratory after school. Once he got older he enjoyed watching anime series like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and Death Note. Although his interest in animation was always present, however, watching Toy Story 3 drilled the love for it firmly into his head. After completing his schooling, he shifted back to the US to study Computer Animation at Ringling College of Art and Design, Florida. From thereon, he worked hard until he landed a space for himself in the industry. He started by creating advertising and cinematics content for Psyop Studio which allowed him to work for clients like Minecraft and Coca-Cola. For a brief period, he was also working with JibJab Bros Studios for a children's show on Netflix called Ask the Storybots. He spent a large portion of his career on feature animated films. Tarun received his first film credit as an intern on Kubo and the Two Strings Where he helped with the background animation. He also worked at Sony Pictures Imageworks on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Angry Birds Movie 2, where he contributed as a full-fledged character animator. At present, he works at Pixar, having animated for award-winning films like Onward and Soul. His online series based on an Indian childhood called India Vignettes garnered a lot of attention as it was able to capture Indian culture in its rawest form.
