  • Prime Minister Modi inaugurates 216ft Statue
  • This statue to be called
  • The statue is made of 'panchaloha,' a five-metal alloy made up of gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 216-foot tall 'Statue of Equality,' which is dedicated to the 11th-century Hindu saint Ramanujacharya. The Statue of Equality, according to the Prime Minister's Office, honours Ramanujacharya, who supported equality in all aspects of life, including faith, caste, and creed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Today, Ramanujacharya Ji is delivering us a message of equality in the form of a huge Statue of Equality."

The statue is affixed to a 54-foot-high base building known as 'Bhadra Vedi,' which includes levels dedicated to a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian scriptures, a theatre, and an educational gallery featuring many of Sri Ramanujacharya's works. Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram designed the statue, which is among the world's highest.

The Prime Minister also paid a visit to the 108 Divya Desams (ornately carved temples) that encircle the Statue of Equality as part of the occasion. There will also be a 3D projection presentation depicting Ramanujacharya's life journey and teachings. According to an official statement, the unveiling of the Statue of Equality is part of the 12-day Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi Samaroham, which is commemorating Sri Ramanujacharya's 1000th birth anniversary. Earlier in his visit to Hyderabad, the Prime Minister kicked off the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics' 50th Anniversary festivities (ICRISAT).

"Our focus is on the combination of going back to the roots and marching to the future to save our farmers from the climate crisis," he added. More than 80% of the country's small farmers are in desperate need of assistance. Natural farming and digital agriculture are the emphases of the Union Budget."

"India has set a target of Net-Zero by 2070," PM Modi remarked, referring to the actions taken to address climate change. We've also called for a pro-planet people's movement, which is critical in combating climate change and connects everyone to the environment."

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, commonly known as KCR, sparked a political uproar when he skipped not just welcoming the Prime Minister when he arrived in Hyderabad, but also all of the engagements he attended. Talasani Srinivas Yadav was appointed as the Minister-in-Waiting to receive and see off the Prime Minister during his visit, according to a message from the CMO. According to PTI, the CM was not feeling well and was "suffering from fever," according to sources at the Pragati Bhavan, Rao's official house.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy, and Telangana Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav were among those who welcomed Modi at the airport earlier. As Modi came, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was conspicuously absent.

Though the Telangana Chief Minister's Office informed the Prime Minister's Office that the Chief Minister will be absent from the PM's engagements due to a fever, the move comes as KCR's attacks on the BJP leader have escalated dramatically.
