Donald Trump’s Truth Social App tops the chart of downloads

Donald trump’s new social media app topped the chart of the most downloaded app in Apple’s U.S. App Store on 21st 2022 and it is ahead of TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Truth social app was launched on president’s day in the Apple App Store in the US. Through this new app, the former US President will restore his presence on the social media platform.

US former President was banned from all top social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Nick Clegg, the vice president of global affairs of Facebook stated that Donald trump's actions violated our severe rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols and banned Donald Trump for 2 years from all the social media apps. As Donald trump's posts on Facebook and his followers’ actions were instigating violence during the time of capital riots the former president was banned from all social media apps.

Features of the App

  • Right now, the Truth Social app is available only for iPhone users.
  • iOS 13 version is required for the smooth running of the app
  • The storage required for the app is 12.4 MB and its free of cost for users
  • The app is similar to Twitter but instead of tweets in this app the posts will be declared as “Truths” and while sharing with friends you can “Re Truth” it.
  • Block functionality is there in the app

Truth social app was under trial-and-error process sinch December with around 500 users on the Platform.  Truth social app is the second attempt of Donal Trump because previously he launched a blog that was shut down within a month whereas there are huge expectations for the success of this app.

This new app is developed by the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and this group is represented by Devin Nunes. The former US President the first post on the truth social app. His son, Donald Trump Jr shared a screenshot of Donald trump’s first post on the truth social app. 

Donald Trump announced in October 2021 that he will be launching the Truth Social app which will compete with the tyranny of Big Tech and as he said his app has reached the top in the most downloaded app in the US Apple App store with the outline message “We are a social media platform that is free from political discrimination. Join us and share, communicate and have fun!”

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) announced in October that they are planning to merge with the Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC.O) and stand to receive 239$ in cash and additionally TMTG raised 1billion$ committed financing from private investors which will be available once the deal with the DWAC is completed. The truth social app has some promising investors to compete with the big investors and competitors in the social media platform in the US.

 Even though the app topped the most downloads chart in just one day after the launch, the app had some technical glitches initially as most of the members could not download the app and they got a notification saying that they are added to the waiting list because of the massive demand. soon after this notification people started trolling the app and Donald trump in the Twitter app.

 Nunes, the representative of Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) in an official news channel asked the users of the app to share more accounts, photos. Nunes was asked in the interview as to whether the user can edit their “truths” the executive replied not yet. In twitter users can edit after posting a tweet. He concluded by stating that the app will be fully functional and operational by the end of march at least in the United States.
