Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicle (VECV) a joint venture started by Volvo and Eicher will be supplying electric buses in various cities of India. As per the sources the company in its first phase is going to supply about 40 electric buses in Mumbai, actually these 40 buses are part of the 390 buses ordered by the minister of heavy industries and enterprises Mr. Anant Geete in December last year, also other than placing the order the minister also spoke about providing a subsidy of Rs 437 cr to 11 cities for launching electric vehicles which will include electric buses,taxis and three wheelers. Moreover in the first phase of the project about 40 electric buses will be seen in nine big cities namely Delhi ,Bangalore ,Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Indore, Lucknow and Jaipur each so to complete the order the company has partnered with KPIT Technologies whose electrification technology called as Revolo will be used in these electric buses. Moreover these hybrid buses from VECV will be devloped at company’s Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh and interestingly these buses will have a range of 177 kms and will be fully air conditioned.
