Beauty brands and companies continue to make much-needed changes in the light of racial injustice, in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. On June 19, Johnson and Johnson announced their latest action plan: The company will cease producing two lights that have been billed as 'dark spot reduction' and are sold solely abroad. Fine Fairness by Neutrogena (which was available in the Middle East and Asia) and Clean & Clear Fairness (which was made available in India) are discontinued products.

Both product lines were marketed as reduction units for dark spots, but many consumers would buy the products to lighten their skin tone. The company noted in a statement: 'In the last few weeks conversations have shown that some names of products or claims on our products Neutrogena and Clean & Clear dark-spot reduction products are just as good as or as white as your unique skin tone.'

The products will remain on the shelves in the Middle East and Asia for a short period, but the Company has confirmed that the links on the product website are removed. The company told the New York Times, "We will not produce or ship the product line anymore."

The critical move by Johnson & Johnson to end the development of toxic skin bleaching agents is just starting to undo itself.
