While advocating the law preventing population growth, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said in the programme organized by the Jansankya Samadhaan Foundation that there is an immediate need to control the population as it is the major obstruction to the development of the country.
He said that the control of population growth should be the primary objective as it is a major problem in a country like India where there is a lack of resources. Therefore, for the development and maintenance of social harmony, it is vital that we shift our concern to a growing population. He compared the country’s population with that of China. He further added that overpopulation is pretty evident in our country where it hampers the overall development including infrastructure. He cited many reasons to provide the great importance of the law which seeks to control the overpopulation.
He emphasized the secular law, that is, it should apply to each and every community. He even stated the strict action that should be taken against the population control law violators while saying that, "If the law says only two children are allowed, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, and all others should follow it. Those who do not follow the law, their voting rights should be revoked, action on their finances be taken, legal proceedings initiated against them.” India should also conduct population control programmes that are being carried out in 22 Islamic countries and strict action should be taken against those who violate the law. If the strict law is not implemented then our will soon witness the scarcity of resources.
He was asked if he would resign to press for such a law, as mentioned in a press statement by the foundation, he said, "I am ready to go to any extent for people's awakening." He also said that he was ideologically with the foundation, which has held rallies in various districts including Amroha, Baghpat, and Ghaziabad. He has planned to go to 34 more districts to press for the issue ‘from streets to 'Sansad' (Parliament).”
