Just after BSP and SP buried their 2-decade long animosity to defeat BJP, BSP chief Mayawati has asked her party to “be prepared” to contest bypolls to 11 seats in the UP assembly. She also told them to be ready to contest all 403 seats in the 2022 assembly polls. It looks like this new alliance has lasted less than 5 months and will end soon. She said that she was unhappy that SP is not performing very well and the future of her party is at risk.
She said that Akhilesh Yadav and her have strained ties now and that “Yadav votes were not transferred to us but our votes went to them. Samajwadi Party won where Muslims voted big for them.” She supported her statements by saying that the last time this alliance occurred in 1993, BSP’s performance was compromised.
SP did not see this coming and its president, Akhilesh Yadav said “People are with us. Massive groundwork needs to be done to defeat BJP”
She also made structural changes to the UP party unit. The state has been divided into four sectors — West Lucknow, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. On Sunday, she replaced the in-charges of BSP in Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat and Rajasthan along with three state presidents of Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. She then shuffled zonal in-charges as well.
