BJP chief Amit Shah has always been known for chairing high-level meetings with top leaders of the party to discuss and debate on various concerns of the party. But this meeting chaired by Shah was to underline his role in the government and also to discuss India’s options on various immediate issues, Mozambique being one of them. This meeting may also be an indication of Amit Shah chairing the high-level meetings of the cabinet in the future. More than the subject of the meeting, it was the attendance of the foreign minister S Jaishanakar, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, railway, and commerce minister Piyush Goyal and other top-level cabinet ministers that caught the attention of everyone. The meeting was held at the home minister’s office. The meeting coincided with the meeting presidents of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and Zimbabwe’s E D Mnangagwa calling up PM Narendra Modi for his win in the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting examined ways to tackle various issues which include deepening Chinese inroads through investment in infrastructure, oil companies investment in Mozambique and also some issues of the railways. Meanwhile, the composition of the Cabinet Committee on Appointments is likely to be announced on Wednesday with Modi and Shah as its members.
